History

Well for my whole life I've known what I was going to be. A knight, proud brave and true. I would, as my father had before me, protect the duke, and the land- Sesnia. Give honest advice as I could, and never back down from a fight. There was constant competition between Josh and I, he was to become duke, and I was to be his protector. While in name I served his father, the duke, in truth I was Josh's man From my birth till his death. It is possible that for the first 18 years of my life I never went more then 16 hours without seeing him. Even when, at age 15, he ran away he took me with him. Though we only stayed away a few weeks it, like out other adventures, drew us closer. I suspect the duke didn't sent out any parties to find us while we were gone, relying on our youthful exuberance and luck to see us through. When we returned there was no fuss made in court, although my father made me do laps and live on gruel for weeks after. I suspect that those two weeks were also when the Duchess "the surprise" was conceived, Little Arillia. 16 years after her first son The duchess had a daughter. Sesnia was a peaceful and prosperous land. So when the Dukes Uncle, Rupert, threw us a feast to celebrate Josh's 18th birthday there was not even the faintest suspicion anything could be amiss. I owe my life/ will always regret that I had been confined to my room after Josh and I decided to celebrate his adulthood at a brothel a few days before. There was treachery afoot that day. The taste of the poison must have been disguised by the rich foods it was paired with. The duke, duchess, Josh, and most of the guard died before realizing anything at all. Rupert could not poison the gruel - it was too plain and besides would have killed too many of the staff. It was this which saved my life as well as the life of the princess (both still only allowed gruel for differing reasons). Seeking to hide my shame, my father saved my life, for he told very few people I was being punished, and so none suspected I would not attend the feast and live. An influx of mercenaries and guards from our rival/ neighboring Duchy Thenid quickly showed those of us left alive the folly of objecting to the Rupert's treasonous rule. Furthermore I knew I had a reason to live rather then throwing my life away on a futile attempt at revenge. I could still hope that Aurillia was still alive. I do not know what happened to her after the massacre, but I know she was not poisoned, and I retain hope she was not killed. And that hope sustains the last of the true Sesnians. We seek our lost duchess that we may restore her to the throne. Rupert Ravages the land and people of Sesnia. He needs to wrest all he can to repay his benefactors. He is hated by all of Sesnia, but there is no one to unite the factions that despise the upstart. If they had a duchess to rally behind the people would join the remaining nobility and tradespeople to shake off their evil ruler. But that is merely a bedtime story to help us sleep since no one know what happened to the lost princess. My friends and I are simple mercenaries, but when we can we follow rumors and whispers. We travel wherever our contracts take us, and always have our eye's open. One day we will find that which was lost. Until then we survive, and grow.
